Vue Pointe Apartments, a development from Waite Park developer and architecture firm Sand Companies, will bring 48 apartments to Waite Park when it is completed next summer.
The project broke ground in May along First Street South near Woods Farmer Seed & Nursery. It will feature a mix of one to four-bedroom units with in-unit laundry, balconies and walk-in closets, as well as a community room, outdoor space and playground on site. Some units will be equipped with accessibility features like roll-under sinks and grab bars in the bathroom.
“We’re excited. We’re a local developer… and so excited to be building in our town,” Megan Sand Carr, a senior business development manager with Sand Companies, said.
Vue Pointe will also be one of the first passive design buildings in central Minnesota, as it is the only project in the area with a certification from Passive House Institute of the U.S., or Phius.
Vue Pointe also marks the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency’s first passive building project that it has financed. In addition to the Housing Finance Agency, Sand Companies is working with the Stearns County Housing & Redevelopment Authority and Wells Fargo Community Lending and Investment. GMHF provided a predevelopment loan to support the project.
Vue Pointe is designed to be a workforce housing building, which is different from affordable housing but meant to be accessible to working-class residents. As a result, Sand Carr said it will help meet the area’s housing needs.
“Safe, affordable housing is the goal of this project, and to bring more of that into Waite Park is going to be really beneficial to the community,” she said.
