After several months of construction new apartments, Center City Housing held a groundbreaking to celebrate their partnerships. Center City Housing building new apartment units for the unhoused is an ambitious project to say the least. There will be 30-units at Welch Place and then 60-units at Wadena West, people can expect to move next year in 2026.
Executive Director Nancy Cashman says when the apartments are finished, they’ll have 24 hour front desk staff. This will include other comprehensive services that can lend a hand to people who might have an emergency.
“High-priority homeless folks who have spent a lot of time on the streets, a lot of time in shelters, have a lot of barriers maintaining long-term housing. Cashman said. “Living on the streets is absolutely the worst treatment plan for anyone. No one gets sober on the streets. No one’s mental health gets better. So people need a place.”
Center City Housing relies on funds from both state grants and donations to provide supportive housing for low-income families.
