As a regional center in southwest Minnesota, Marshall has experienced the benefits of economic growth and the challenges of an affordable housing shortage.
The Parkway Addition project in Marshall, developed by Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership, is a mixed-income neighborhood intended to help address those needs. To create affordable housing opportunities in the development, Schwan’s Inc. provided a 0% interest, revolving construction loan to build single-family houses, matching funds for homebuyer down payment assistance, and a grant to the Parkway Townhomes rental housing.
The city also provided significant financial support to the development. GMHF participated with technical assistance for the single-family development, downpayment funds, and a $288,000, 0% interest deferred loan to Parkway Townhomes.
