Emerging Markets Homeownership Pilot Program Helping Create Sustainable Home Ownership Opportunities
Program Goal: Eliminate systematic barriers to home ownership for emerging markets (households of color and new immigrants) through three pilot programs working with Latinos, African immigrants and Native Americans.
Minnesota has one of the highest rates of home ownership in the country. It also has one of the largest disparities in home ownership rates between white households and households of color. Greater Minnesota Housing Fund recently funded a three-year pilot program designed to improve the homeownership opportunities for emerging market households in Greater Minnesota.
The collaborating pilot partners included:
With GMHF program incubation grants and related homebuyer financing, these pilot partners created culturally competent, comprehensive homebuyer services in targeted geographies with a special focus on serving African immigrant, Latino and Native American households. The EMHI pilot has been a success. These partners have provided homebuyer and financial literacy training to more than 2,000 households and helped more than 200 families purchase homes since 2008. These organizational achievements and individual homebuyer success stories can be viewed at http://www.adcminnesota.org/success-stories/housing and http://www.achieve-homeownership.org/
